
West Hartford Aikikai began in August 2001. We are an Aikido Schools of Ueshiba ASU affiliated dojo.
Our instructor is Richard Judd, 3rd Dan. Dick has been a Sandan since 1994. He began his training in Aikido in 1981 at the University of South Florida Aikido Club in Tampa Florida. In 1986 he received his Shodan from Shihan Mitsugi Saotome. Dick brings to West Hartford Aikikai over 24 years of teaching experience and 27 years of training.
Our assistant instructors are:
John Ashton, Shodan. John has been training in Aikido since 1996.
John Chipman, Shodan. John has been training in Aikido since 1999.
Nick Disantis, Ikkyu. Nick has been training in Aikido since 2003.
To pass on the art of Aikido as we know it, to the best of our abilities, both as an effective martial art and as a modality for spiritual growth and self-improvement.
To create a safe environment to train in that is supportive, nurturing, caring and respectful of all who participate.
To understand that everyone studies Aikido for his or her own reasons and to honor those reasons provided that they are not contrary to the loving principles of Aikido as set forth by the founder.
